Riley was able to get all of his scans done at once, but the results were not good. He has a tumor on his spine and several more in his brain, on the opposite side from the original tumors. There is evidence that it has gotten into the ventricles of the brain, so the next step for him is radiation. The current chemo has stopped being effective, so we will be looking for other options there as well. Please pray that the radiation work, and that his body be able to continue to tolerate all the treatments.
That’s about all I have, and can say for now. We were all pretty devastated, but none of us are ready to give up the fight just yet.
CALL TO PRAY:
From Jennifer: Please pray for Riley. He has done really well since the last round of radiation, and with the good news of the tumors shrinking his spirits have been up. But in the last month he has complained of pain in his tailbone. In the last week he has also experienced some tingling in his legs, and a little bit more nausea than usual. This could be a side effect of the radiation and the chemo, but the doctors want to have it checked out. He will have an MRI of his brain tomorrow, and we are still trying to schedule the MRI of the spine, but it might be as early as Thursday.
From Jen this morning:
Hallelujah! The doctors reported more SHRINKAGE today. Overall, since this past June, when we discovered that 4 more tumors had popped up, there has been a roughly 75-80% shrinkage. Considering how far Riley has come in the last six months is “miraculous”. I say PRESS IN! And Thanks Be To God! Please continue to keep Riley in your thoughts and prayers. Although this is VERY GOOD NEWS, he still must endure the chemo treatments. Pray that he be strengthened in mind, body and spirit. Pray that the tumors continue to respond to treatment.
God Bless the nurses that suggested giving Riley a specific med during chemo. It’s kept away the nausea and he has slept through the last 2 treatments. That being said, the oncology nurses have a special place in my heart anyway – I don’t know what I would do without them. We scheduled Riley’s next MRI for Monday, January 16th, with results in clinic on the 18th. I know that everyone is lifting us up in prayer, please continue. Pray that the radiation treatments did what they needed to do, and that the cancer “just stop”. Many have asked, and we don’t have an “end” in site for now. We are just going to continue to take it week by week. Love to you all!
We just completed treatment #6 out of 10. Riley is feeling pretty good, but tired, which is expected. Thanks to everyone continuing to lift us up in prayer.
Thank you for your faithful prayers! Please continue to pray with us! We praise God for this positive report…
Just heard from the NP, more shrinkage! Not a whole lot, but they are shrinking…which is going in the right direction. Praise God! Tumors are responding to treatment. We see radiologist at 2. Thank you to everyone for continued prayers!
From November 29th:
Riley has scans tomorrow. Please pray with us on his behalf for favor, mercy and healing. It will be awhile before we get results but we will keep you posted.
Please say a prayer for Riley. He had chemo today, and has been feeling nauseous all afternoon. We’ve been around a lot of kids today and last week, so I’m hoping that it is just a viral thing and will pass quickly, and not anything related to the tumors. That being said, he will have another scan on Wednesday, November 30th, to give the radiologist an accurate map of where to treat. Please pray that all goes well.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I do want to wish everyone the best as they gather with friends and family tomorrow. I want to say Thank You to everyone who has prayed for, checked in on, and helped us over the last year. Without you it would be a lonely road. Without God it would be impossible.
Our latest update on Riley:
We will start a brief period of radiation (about 2 weeks) just after Thanksgiving. The doctors believe that concentrating on the 4 tumors is the best plan. In the meantime Riley will continue to have chemotherapy. Pray that the tumors would continue to shrink, and not build up a resistance to the chemo. Pray for endurance for us all, as it is quickly approaching a year since this nightmare started. Chemo days are long, and usually take a day or two to recover. That being said, Riley is feeling much better. He is able to attend school on a regular basis, and is doing very well. Just like most of the challenges he faces, he is one brave and strong young man.
Riley will have another MRI on Monday, September 26. They will scan his head and his spine, so it will be an hour and a half long. We won’t know the results until the 28th. Please continue to pray for him, for endurance, and miraculous healing.
